BOWLS stalwart Arthur Bellany is celebrating his appointement to a prestigious position within the sport.

Arthur, 71, was confirmed as president of the Scottish Bowling League for under-25s at its meeting in Glasgow last Sunday.

He is the first bowling official from East Lothian to take up the position. He said: “I am really proud and honoured to be appointed president of the league.

“The league is important as it provides a stepping stone for young players”

Arthur was a member of the Dunbar United football team who won the Scottish Junior Cup in 1961.
