Ross High go up after a comfortable derby win
Dunbar 6 v 36 Ross High
Ross High kicked-off this game, in front of a large travelling support, knowing that a win would see them crowned as champions of East Regional Division One.
The match was scrappy in the early stages with neither team in charge
Dunbar were the first to score with a long-range penalty from Donnellan.
Ross High then spent the rest of the first half camped in the home 22, but struggled to break down a resilient Dunbar defence.
Eventually the Tranent men made the breakthrough that their possession and territory deserved.
From a set play they spun the ball wide and scrum-half Jamie Evans passed to Luke Welsh who powered over from close range.
Donnellan added three more points with another penalty to give the home side a 6-5 advantage at half-time.
Ross High began to show in the second half why they were promotion material.
The Belters took control of the contact area where Dunbar struggled to cope with the increased intensity.
The home side were penalised on a number of occasions for infringements at the ruck.
Dean Jones showed how to kick in windy conditions to edge Ross High away from their hosts.
Before the game, the visitors had targeted a bonus point win as an appropriate way of sealing the championship.
And they did were not to be denied.
Bob Bailey, Chris McNeill and Dean Jones all crossed the line for three tries.
These scores ensured that the Tranent men secured the points needed for promotion.
