Burgh cup rivals prove they’re Biggar and better
Musselburgh 8 v 34 Biggar
THE visitors’ big forwards and speedy backs made sure that Musselburgh would progress no further than this SHE Cup sixth round tie at Stoneyhill last Saturday.
In the seventh minute, Biggar winger Parker was on the end of a crossfield-passing move, but was held up. However, the ball was fed to him again and this time he touched down and converted.
After 20 minutes, Burgh set up a move. Walker, Millar, Walls and Monaghan probed and won a penalty. Ross slotted the kick over the bar.
The visitors extended their lead when Thomson fed Wright who barged in for Parker to convert.
The referee was checking his watch as Biggar full-back McKeand fielded a Burgh kick, and made 45 for a try to make the half-time score 19-3 to the visitors.
Eight minutes after the restart, Notman received a pass and put McKeand over for an unconverted try.
Burgh pulled a try back after the hour when Walls returned a Biggar punt to touch. From the touchline, the visitors kicked the ball out to Doig who ran in from 35 metres to touch down.
Two minutes later Biggar hit back. They took one against the head, Notman and Manawati were held up on the line and had a scrum.
Ball came along the line from the setpiece and McKeand applied downward pressure on the ball for an unconverted try.
A Biggar penalty and lineout led to a drive by their forwards and Manawati rose last to complete the scoring in what was a comfortable win for Biggar and the end of Burgh’s cup dreams for this season.
