Runners have spring in their steps

Spring sunshine greeted the 200+ competitors in the final round of the 6 race Borders Winter Cross Country series in Lauder on Sunday.

With 85 juniors and 120 adult runners facing challenging terrain including hills, water jumps and fast downhill sections, the scene was set for a great finish to the series, with East Lothian running clubs, once again, being well represented.

In the junior race Alex Noble of Dunbar Running Club came in 3rd overall in 11:45, with Hamish and Cameron Law almost crossing the line together in 13:55 and 13:56 respectively.

Elliot Mullen and Nicole Turner also had a good race along with Katie Watson (of HELP), Joanne Lindsay, Joe Kowbel, Andrew Taylor, Greg Noble, Katie Proudfoot, Poppy Ives, Isabelle Taylor, Gemma Bolton, Rachel Watson (HELP), Megan McLaren, Katrina Maguire, Kirsty Wilson, Jessica King and Claire Denholm.

In the senior race Brian Marshall of HELP took 3rd place overall in 22:39, with Dunbar’s Ian Sills and George Gilhooley finishing 9th and 10th in 27:54 and 27:59.

Other East Lothian runners competing were Grant Noble and Richard Taylor of Dunbar, Finlay Smith, Peter Probin, Sandy Wallace and Tom Harley all of HELP, Steve Pattison and Rhona Anderson (Dunbar), Julie Oswald (HELP), Andrew Anderson (Dunbar), George Armstrong (HELP), Mary Pattison (Dunbar) and Claire Simpson (HELP).

Overall winners for the series were:

Lady Vet 35-39 1st Julie Oswald (HELP); Lady Vet 40-44, 3rd Rhona Anderson (Dunbar); Lady Vet 45-49, 1st Anne Hay (Dunbar); Lady Vet 50-54, 1st Mary Pattison (Dunbar).
