Jacobsen rues World Cup KO after just 36 minutes
FORMER Preston Lodge prop Allan Jacobsen has been ruled out of Scotland’s Rugby World Cup campaign after only 36 minutes of play after sustaining a calf injury in the 56-10 win over Portugal in Saint-Etienne on Sunday.
The 28-year-old, affectionately known as ‘Chunk’ to his team-mates, was left devastated after injuring his calf muscle in Scotland’s opening match in France.
Ironically, it now means that Jacobsen, who plays for Edinburgh, has seen only 36 minutes of action in two World Cups after he was drafted into the 2003 squad as an injury replacement but didn’t see any action.
It’s a bitter blow for Jacobsen who had worked tirelessly in the Murrayfield gym during the summer to get fit for this year’s event.
Gloucester prop Alasdair Dickinson will now take Jacobsen’s place in the squad.
Jacobsen’s team-mate Scott Murray, another former PL player, wants to prolong his career for Scotland after the World Cup.
The 31-year-old lock, who has won the most caps in Scotland’s history with 86, said he would stay on for Scotland, but only if he is wanted.
“I have no interest in retiring because I love playing for Scotland,” said Murray.
“It’s a great buzz and a great honour, and I’ll keep going as long as I think I can be useful. So if they’ll keep picking me to play for Scotland I’ll keep playing as long as possibly can.”
Murray’s career with Scotland has spanned over 12 years after making his test debut against Australia.
