Buses direct to QMU
THE first direct city bus service to Queen Margaret University (QMU) was launched last week.
Lothian Buses announced last Monday that the 45 bus will now run a peak time, weekday service every 20 minutes to and from the Craighall-based university and the Capital.
The service will operate Monday to Friday from approximately 7am to 10am and 3pm to 6.20pm.
During peak times the bus will terminate at Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters at Gogarburn.
The route originally terminated at Jock’s Lodge on Willowbrae Road.
East Lothian Council transport spokesman, Councillor Paul McLennan said: “I hope that the extension of the 45 bus service will benefit students and staff travelling to and from QMU, reduce car use, and help ease the parking problems and congestion in the area around the university.”
He added: “It’s a big boost because we have had capacity issues on the trains.”
QMU green transport co-ordinator, Gill Kelly, welcomed the extended bus route.
“The new 45 bus service has been welcomed by staff and students at QMU, she said. “It is now only a 20 minute journey from the top of Leith Walk.
“And we are anticipating even more uptake as the service is bedded in and people try it out for themselves.
“Travelling from further afield can be more problematic due to the numbers of schoolchildren using the service, but we will be discussing this with Lothian Buses to assess if this can be improved in any way.”
