Dove is on song for NB
Broughton FP 20 v 25 North Berwick
Having lost the toss, North Berwick played down the Wardie slope in the first half of this East Division 1 match.
But it was Broughton who scored first after 10 minutes, when their backs carried through a well-executed move to score under the posts.
But North Berwick pressure brought first a penalty by Grant Spence and then a try from Jamie Dove, who had supported an excellent break from Buchanan. A further penalty from Spence made it 13-7 to NB at half-time.
After a series of rucks on the home try line early in the second period, Robert Ritchie made a blindside break to score in the corner.
Broughton then took the initiative and the North Berwick defence succumbed to a try from a rolling maul. This was not converted but a Broughon penalty brought them back to within three points of NB.
With Duncan Hughes replacing Alan Gallacher and Alex Mitchell back on to replace an exhausted Tommy Dale, the North Berwick pack worked flat out to push up the slope.
With eight minutes remaining, a tiring Broughton pack started to infringe at the breakdown.
After a combination of well-won lineouts and a series of midfield drives, North Berwick were awarded a scrum on the Broughton 22.
Jamie Dove executed a blind-side move from the set-piece and scored a try under the posts. Spence converted to take the score to 25-15.
But Broughton came back, and despite some heroic defence with Jamie Armstrong making some huge hits, the home side’s winger scored in the corner.
He could also have scored a second, last-minute try, if were not for the covering Craig Lauder.
