Cadets still hoping to flag up golden jubilee
DUNBAR Sea Cadets remain hopeful of recovering the unit’s traditional flag in time for their golden jubilee celebrations later this month.
The North Road-based cadets made a public plea to Dunbar residents earlier this year to search their attics for the unit’s ‘lost’ colours but so far there have been no leads.
TS Valiant is in fine form as its 50th anniversary approaches.
Dunbar cadets will lead a parade through the town centre on Sunday, September 28, with at least 10 other units from across the country in tow, and ex-Dunbar cadets are welcome to join them.
A sea cadet brass band from Arbroath will provide rousing musical accompaniment to the marchers
The procession will begin at Lauderdale Park at 2pm and make its way to Dunbar Parish Church for a special service at 2.45pm.
Following the service, the cadets will march back through the town, stopping briefly to salute Lord Lieutenant, Garth Morrison, at the town clock on High Street at about 4pm.
A buffet lunch will follow at the Castle Park Barracks on North Road.
Dunbar Sea Cadet officer-in-charge, Michael Kaszuba, said: “I think this is a very significant day for the cadet unit. It’s going to be a big parade and hopefully the people of Dunbar will see that we are still here and still running.”
And he spelled out his vision for the future. “We really need to target the 12 -year-olds – the ones about to go to grammar school.,” he said. “At the recent sailing competition we had a lot of youngsters at the harbour looking interested so that bodes well for us.”
Ex cadets are welcome to join in the parade later this month.
