In on the act for church funds
DISBANDED acting troupe, St Michael’s Players, is to reform for a one-off show to raise funds for Inveresk Parish Church.
The drama company – which has rehearsed in Inveresk Church Hall since its foundation in 1947 – will take part in a fundraising variety show to help fund the restoration of their antiquated church organ.
St Michael’s Inveresk Parish Church – the namesake of the local amateur acting group – requires £250,000 to finance the work.
The final curtain fell on the amateur dramatic group in July last year – after six decades in the Honest Toun – when no nominations were received to fill vacant committee posts.
Mrs Wood, secretary of the company since 1967, said: “This came right out of the blue.
“We are just one of a number of performances to take part and will only put on about two ten minute stints from plays which are yet to be decided.”
It is expected that at least eight former players will take part in the show.
Mrs Wood said she looked forward to catching up with old friends.
She said: “It will be nice to get together again because I think we all have missed the company, the chat and laughs we had.”
Asked if the benefit show could breathe new life into the defunct amateur dramatic company Esther said: “Don’t count on it!”
In the sixty years since its launch, the company, which rehearsed at Inveresk, has performed regularly throughout Musselburgh, and staged annual productions – to critical acclaim – at the Brunton Theatre.
The fundraising show will take place on November 15, at Inveresk Church Hall.
