ABOUT 200 visitors turned out to join in the summer fun at Wingate Gala Day last Saturday – eclipsing memories of last year’s downpour and subsequent wash-out.

Organisers had been hoping for kind weather to boost this year’s attendance and were fortunate that the rain held off.

The highlight of the day belonged to queen and consort Megan Reid, 6, and Calum Barber, 7 who performed their royal duties admirably.

The Dunbar Primary School pupils were crowned by village housing officer, Dale Doman, in Wingate Play Park at 2pm.

Chairperson of Wingate Tenants and Residents Association and the gala committee, Mary Phillips, said: “The day went very smoothly and all the people who turned up really enjoyed it.”

For the first time, adults could happily sup away at the mobile bar while youngsters enjoyed face-painting, a bouncy castle and a raft of other activities. A barbecue, tombola and table top sale was also available on the day.

The total funds raised have not yet been totted up but the gala committee hope the added attraction of the bar will have helped yield a significant total.
