MUSSELBURGH’s premier events venue, the Brunton Hall, is receiving a £750,000 makeover to the ground floor.

Offices and interview rooms in the east wing of the building – which was opened by the Queen in 1970 – are undergoing total overhaul.

More interview rooms will be created as a result, along with a dedicated first aid room and a larger meeting room.

The works carried out by Bankton Building Services and costing £744,777.81 include:

* The renewal of heating and ventilation systems;

* New wiring;

* Alterations to staff toilets and corridors to provide more usable floor space;

* New perimeter insulation and heating controls to make the building more energy-efficient and reduce running costs;

* Fire safety measures include new fire resisting doors, walls, emergency lighting and a better fire warning system;

* Provision of acoustic ceilings and lighting; and

* Replacement of decoration and floor coverings.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The improved facilities will allow the teams based at Brunton Hall to provide a quicker response for interviews as well as delivering an improved service to the community.”

The work is due for completion by January next year.
