THE ghosts of Gullane will be revealed to residents later this year, as part of an exciting new project by young moviemakers in the village.

Together with members of Gullane History Society, five youngsters from Gullane Youth Group spent last weekend filming footage for ‘The Face in the Fire’ documentary.

The project interweaves the well-known local ghost story of the ‘Green Lady’ with the history of the derelict Templar Lodge Hotel, Main Street, and interesting facts about their village.

The fledgling film makers – who wrote the script in May and shared filming, interviewing and acting duties amongst themselves – plan to screen the finished product in October, as part of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Gullane Village Hall.

A wide range of activities has already been lined up by Gullane Community Association, including a tea dance, ecumenical service, an ‘auction of promises’ – to which local people and businesses are urged to donate a variety of prizes – and a jazz concert.

In an application to Young Scot Arts Action Fund, the youth group wrote:

“The project will hopefully inspire other young people to be more creative and produce their own films, and hopefully Gullane will be known for more than just golf. It will also enable us to widen our horizons and will encourage us to work as a group.”

They have also received total funding of about £1,400 from East Lothian Council, North Berwick Rotary Club and the Duke of Edinburgh Jubilee Fund.
