LONGNIDDRY mum-of-two Carol Mawbey was awarded double honours when she graduated from university last month.

Carol, 41, achieved a first class BSc honours degree in physiotherapy from Musselburgh’s Queen Margaret University. And as the highest performing student on her course, she was also awarded the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Scottish Board prize for best student in QMU’s physiotherapy programme.

Fiona Coutts, head of physiotherapy at the Musselburgh university, said:

”Carol gained an outstanding mark of 83 per cent, which is the highest mark I have ever seen. She is not only an excellent student and clinician, but a lovely person, who is to be commended for her achievement.”

Carol, who already has a degree in life sciences, was joined at her graduation ceremony by her children, Susan, 13, and Andrew, 12.

She told the Courier: “I was delighted to receive the award as it’s quite an achievement and I worked very hard for it.”

She now plans to return to QMU and study for a Phd.
