AN AWARD-winning brass band wowed worshippers at Belhaven Parish Church earlier this month by providing a musical accompaniment at the weekly sermon.

Eighteen members of Friary Guildford Brass Band travelled from southern England to play at the wedding of fellow bandsman Chris Atwood and Rosemary Main at the Belhaven kirk on Saturday, August 3.

Mr Atwood – a percussionist in the ensemble – persuaded the skilled musicians to remain in Dunbar for the rest of the weekend and play at the Sunday church service.

Belhaven minister, the Rev Laurence Twaddle, said it was a “real day for the church’s history book”.

“This was a wonderful and memorable occasion for us... with the sheer quality and richness of the music adding something very special to our worship,” he said.

“The congregation loved it and it made it a very special Sunday and another great day at Belhaven.”
