‘Delight’ at veg sales
MORE than 100 fresh veg-loving visitors attended the annual Musselburgh Allotments Society Open Day on Sunday – bagging an expected £200 for the club’s coffers.
Following the disappointment of last year’s cancellation due to bad weather, organisers said they were “delighted” to have returned with another successful event in 2008.
Commonly seen UK produce such as potatoes, onions and leeks were displayed alongside more exotic vegetables including chard, kale (a form of cabbage), artichoke, courgettes and sweet corn.
Home-made jam and cakes were also up for grabs.
All money raised will help pay for the association’s liability insurance and general upkeep of 50 allotments.
Committee member, Gerry O’Neill, said: “I think everyone was very happy with how it went because it has been raining a lot. It started to rain a bit later on, but people put up umbrellas and carried on.”
The allotments are located at Double Dykes next to Lewisvale Park.
