Sweet smell of success at county flower shows
RESIDENTS in Oldhamstocks, Ormiston and Gifford can look forward to a fun-filled day tomorrow (Saturday) as their respective village flower shows get underway.
Visitors of all ages can enjoy Oldhamstocks annual open show, taking place on the village green between 1.30pm and 5pm.
A dog show, raffle, sports and tug ‘o’ war are just a few of the fun activities also lined up for the event, organised by Oldhamstocks Horticultural Society.
The annual Ormiston Flower Show, which has been running for more than 50 years, kicks off at 2.30pm in the village hall.
Anyone wishing to enter a product in the one of the show’s many categories, including flowers, homebaking, arts and crafts and vegetables, can call 01875 611759.
Ormiston Horticultural Society, which organises the show every year, has also made an appeal for new members to join the group.
In Gifford, villagers can look forward to a two-day bonanza of displays and exhibitions as their flower show begins tomorrow, on the local green at 2pm.
Visitors can also browse a variety of displays from 9am on Sunday, and local man and retired merchant Shane Duffy will present the winners’ trophies in the afternoon.
Schedules are available from the Gifford show secretary, by phoning 01620 810368.
