All for kids in need
STAFF at Asda Dunbar recaptured their carefree days of childhood, by donning blazers, short trousers or skirts last week in a bid to promote their back-to-school range and raise money for charity.
Around half the workforce dug out their old school garb and relived their classroom days to collect an expected £300 for BBC’s Children in Need.
All staff too shy to dress up were obliged to cough up at least £1 for the charity kitty.
But the bulk of funds were raised through in-store games designed to test shoppers’ sporting and academic abilities. Twinkle-toed youngsters were able to test their footballing skills with a ‘beat the goalie’ penalty competition.
Those who hit the back of the net with three successive attempts – against an Asda staff ’keeper – pocketed a prize.
A pricing game testing maths ability and an in-store hopscotch game also attracted donations.
Asda general merchandising manager, Rachel Laws, said that it had been “a fantastic day”.
“All the staff had a good time dressing up and the customers had a lot of fun as well,” she said.
The supermarket giant opened its Spott Road branch in Dunbar in November.
