Battle bus joins cavalcade
THE Prestonpans Battle Bus made its debut in Edinburgh on Sunday – taking part in the annual Festivals’ Cavalcade.
To celebrate ‘The Battle of Pots ’n’ Pans’ taking to the stage during the Festival, the Battle Bus ‘Visitor Centre’ was decorated and manned by those involved with the production.
Kelly Ross, the 2008/ 2009 Burriss Bursary winning actress, is starring in the play which compares the divided loyalties of the Jacobite rebellion with modern-day sectarianism.
She said: “The atmosphere amongst all the other floats and bands was brilliant. It gave us all a lift as we get ready for the experience of our lives – putting on our play at The Fringe.”
Gothenburg owner GordonPrestoungrange drove the bus, which is adorned with Highlander decals created by Prestonpans artist Andrew Crummy, from Waverley Bridge down onto Princess Street and was greeted by nearly 100,000 onlookers.
The Battle Bus was born in April this year after the Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust bought and converted an ex-mobile library into a dedicated centre for distributing information on the battle as well as the trust’s campaign to have the battle site in the town protected and properly interpreted.
The play will run from August 4-10 at St Cuthbert’s Parish Church, Edinburgh.
It starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available at the door and at the ticket office, priced £5 and £7.
