Long-serving National Trust for Scotland volunteer, Bob Cranston, has reached a major milestone.

The retired insurance broker, of Mayfield Avenue, Musselburgh, has dedicated 10 years and more than 7,000 hours to taking care of the Trust’s Musselburgh treasure, Newhailes House.

Bob’s long-service and vital contribution to the house, gardens and grounds of the historic house were recognised at a ceremony last Wednesday.

He was presented with a badge and certificate at a small celebration to thank him for his hard work over the years.

Bob’s contribution to Newhailes was noted by the Prince of Wales at a visit to the property in 2002.

Violet Dalton, head of volunteering at the National Trust for Scotland said: “Bob’s commitment and conscientiousness have been a fantastic asset to Newhailes over the last 10 years.

“We are all very grateful to him for his hard work, willingness to get stuck in and thorough knowledge of this fantastic place.

“We want to thank him for his contribution to our vital conservation work and we hope that he continues to clock up the hours.”

Bob is pictured receiving his certificate from National Trust for Scotland property manager, Karen Caldwell.
