Couple flee fire
AN elderly Haddington couple and their four dogs had a lucky escape when their gas boiler caught fire and flames engulfed the kitchen of their Burnside home on Monday.
Three fire crews raced to the scene to find the couple and their pets had escaped the detached two-storey house unharmed.
Firefighters had the blaze under control within 25 minutes. The fire caused extensive smoke damage to kitchen and adjoining garage area.
Haddington Fire Station watch manager, David Hopkinson, said: “Faulty wiring has been identified as the cause.”
