Battle to lure visitors to key sites

Printer Print Article

BATTLE sites and prominent landmarks around Dunbar could be better highlighted through information boards in a bid to lure more visitors to the town.

Herbert Coutts, former director of tourism, culture and leisure at Edinburgh City Council and trustee of the Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust, informed fellow community councillors that the SNP government had made a manifesto plede to protect significant Scottish battle sites.

He also suggested Dunbar made the most of its rich past by mounting interpretative boards at locations of historic significance to inform and educate visitors.

It was suggested pamphlets could be complied providing directions to key historic sites such as the Battle of Dunbar, and Lauderdale House – which was reportedly visited by national icon Robert Burns in May, 1787.

Councillor Paul McLennan suggested the community council apply for Scottish Government Leader Funding to boost the initiative.
