Plan for park revamp
TRANENT residents aired their views on the future of Polson Park – after the end of a professional investigation aimed at mapping out a strategy for its development.
Glasgow-based Land Use Consultants, hired by the Friends of Polson Park group to take up the next stage of the massive refurbishment, has spent the last six months gathering information and public opinion on Polson Park.
A community consultation, which included a survey of 60 members of the public, revealed that the three most popular activities for people who regularly visit the park were using the play area, playing sports and getting fresh air.
The survey also asked what residents disliked about Polson Park.
Of the 60 responses given, 57 stated that their biggest dislike was incidents of vandalism and anti-social behaviour in the park. The state of sport and visitor facilities also ranked highly in residents’ complaints.
Residents were invited to view the results of LUC’s consultation and express their opinions at a public meeting held at Tranent Day Centre on July 5.
The next step for FOPP is to outline a list of priorities for improvements, using the results of LUC’s consultation and the public meeting.
The group will then construct a proposed layout of a ‘new and improved’ Polson Park.
The total cost of regenerating the facility has been estimated at £500,000.
