Emma's surprise win
A TEENAGE artist won an art competition. . . without knowing she had entered.
Port Seton"s Emma Porteous, 17, who has just left Preston Lodge High School, won the first prize of art supplies vouchers at East Lothian Child Protection Committee"s (ELCPC) art and design competition.
Her PL High School art teacher, Jim Cramb, entered her self-portrait (see pic above) in the contest.
She said: 'I"d like to thank Mr Cramb for submitting my work, and ELCPC for this opportunity and the vouchers, which I"ll use to keep myself in supplies over the summer.'
The winning entry, in the style of German artist Kathe Kollwitz, will now be used on the front cover of ELCPC"s new information leaflet.
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: 'ELCPC felt that her portrait, which reveals the both the fragility and strength of youth, was outstanding.'
Emma"s Advanced Higher Project was a 12-ft long painting inspired by Da Vinci"s The Last Supper -with school friends as the disciples.
She is set to study production and technical theatre design at Edinburgh"s Telford College.
