Pavement problems high risk

A TRANENT pensioner who took a tumble on one of the town’s “worst pavements” last year has demanded that East Lothian Council turns its attention to repairing the problem areas.

Speaking at last month’s meeting of Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council, Robert Dow, branded the pavements in Muirside Drive “appalling”.

“The paving slabs in High Street are nowhere near the worst in Tranent,” said Mr Dow, who last September tore his trousers and smashed his watch when he tripped over dislodged paving in the street.

He added: “There are bits up there (Muirside Drive) where you take your life in your hands.

“Why the people who live in Muirside Drive put up with this I will never understand.”

Community councillor Paul Johnson suggested that residents who shared Mr Dow’s concerns should take advantage of the local authority’s new East Lothian Roads Helpline, on 01875 824305.

Fa’side councillor Donald Grant explained that he had investigated the paving stones at Muirside Drive after hearing of Mr Dow’s accident last September.
