Photographer facing high cost of flood

THE owner of East Lothian Camera Shop in Tranent is reeling from the loss of thousands of pounds worth of equipment, destroyed when the rear of his store was flooded last month.

Tranent resident Peter Fallen arrived at his Winton Place store on the morning of May 20 to find his back room – used as a studio and to store valuable photography equipment – was “a complete mess”, after a pipe burst in the unoccupied flat directly above the shop.

“I was upset, the flood just came right down on top of us, it must have been going on for hours,” he told the Courier.

“When the shop was locked up the day before everything was fine.

“It’s a bit of a nuisance, I’ve never had anything like this happen before and it has put a lot of things on the backburner.

“We’ve cleared out the room but everything is still damp – we’re just working out the exact cost of the damage now.”

It would, he said, run to thousands of pounds.

Valuable editing equipment and scanners had been destroyed, carpets wrecked and ceilings required major repair.

“There are certain things we can’t do, like stage children’s pictures, because we normally use the back room as a studio,” he explained.

“It’s just a case of persevering and trying to get back to normal now.”
