Evening ends on sour note as musical instruments destroyed

FIRERAISERS have decimated a Cockenzie garage, filled with antique furniture and musical organs – including at least one piano.

Emergency services raced to Cockenzie, at 4.51am on Saturday, when a fire was discovered at a Whin Park garage. It’s thought the blaze caused damage totalling several hundreds of pounds.

Musselburgh and Tranent firefighters spent more than 30 minutes extinguishing the blaze – which a spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service confirmed was malicious – using breathing kits and a hose reel jet.

No other properties were damaged as a result of the fire but the garage and its contents – believed to be a private collection rather than for commercial purposes – were completed destroyed.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “The value of the items destroyed in the fire is still being calculated.

“We would urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.”

Anyone with information should contact Prestonpans Police Station or Crimestoppers.
