Dance fever grips town
STRICTLY Dance Fever has gripped Haddington, with all 500 tickets for a local version of the hit TV show selling out.
Twelve well-known local faces, partnered by professional dancers, will compete for The Fly Right Dance Company Trophy at the Corn Exchange next Saturday (June 7).
Scotland and Lions rugby legend, Gavin Hastings, will present the evening, with Traprain minister, the Rev Howard Haslett, the compere.
Judging will be done by the audience, who will vote on dance routines performed by school teachers Leigh Morrison and Dorothy Hilsley, sports shop owner Joe Forte, chiropodist Sally Brown, quarryman Alec Renton, butcher Ryan Anderson, veterinary nurse Pauline Foggo, farmer Jim Wyllie, nuclear power plant safety officer Sarah Marginson, garage owner Kathleen Blackie, solicitor Gordon Bathgate and charity fundraising co-ordinator Carol Yarrow.
A bad back has forced Neil Brotherston, of Tyneside Tartans in Haddington, to pull out.
Former gym teacher and dance tutor, Bette Morrison, organised the event.
Mrs Morrison, of Kidlaw Farm, Gifford, said: “We’ve had an amazing response from the public. All the tickets for the competition night, priced £20, went within a couple of hours of going on sale. It should be a great night.”
All proceeds go towards the Yester Kirk Restoration Fund.
