RDA’s big boost for youngsters
MUIRFIELD Riding for the Disabled’s fundraising campaign has received a £1,000 boost from generous pupils at George Heriot’s Junior School in Edinburgh.
Pupils chose the county riding group as their charity for 2008 and, on May 13, a group of 15 youngsters, from P4/5, paid a visit to the RDA’s West Fenton home.
After presenting their donation to RDA chairman Susan Law, pupils learned about the incredible work carried out by the group through chatting with helpers and watching some riders in action.
“The visit was a great success and the youngsters have gone back to George Heriots to share their enthusiasm with the other children in the junior school,” said group organiser, Gill Morrison.
The RDA group is aiming to raise £50,000 in order to expand its base, to include a new viewing gallery, training rooms, a playroom for younger visitors and a physiotherapy room.
It’s hoped that a charity concert – which was to be held yesterday (Thursday) at the ARK in Edinburgh’s Waterloo Place – will bring the group even closer to their fundraising target.
Young Edinburgh-based band Jakil were due to play at the gig, after meeting RDA volunteers Susan Law and Margaret Cameron at the glitzy Radio Forth Awards ceremony last year – when the riding school won in the Help a Child category.
