VILLAGERS in Macmerry can look forward to a jam-packed weekend of gala celebrations next month.

Organisers have lined up games, competitions, and lots of tasty refreshments for the two-day gala event, taking place on June 21 and 22.

Eleven-year-old Paige McEwan will be crowned Macmerry gala queen 2008 at a ceremony in the village public park on June 21.

Her consort, Calum Moffat, also 11, will support her as she makes her royal rounds. Both children are pupils at Macmerry Primary School.

This year’s gracious lady – who takes the honour of crowning the new queen on each gala day and is traditionally a former queen herself – is Donna Young, Macmerry gala queen 1987.

The entire 2008 royal court comprises – maids: Charlie Fleming, Jordyn Hadden, Shannon Hosie, Abby McConnell, Ashley Irvine, Hannah Bleck, Simone Fairgrieve and Hayleigh Archibald; herald: Daniel McKenzie; flower girls: Rebecca McLennan and Lexi McEwan; page boys: Ryan Todd and Jack Thomson.

The weekend of celebrations will be rounded off on June 22 (Sunday) with a ‘sausage sizzle’, races, games and a disco in the public park, from 2pm.
