VIP visitor at Eskmills
STAFF at the Eskmills Project were set to roll out the red carpet yesterday (Thursday) for the arrival of a royal representative.
The Lord High Commissioner, the Rt Hon George Reid – the Queen’s representative for the general assembly of the Church of Scotland – was due to visit staff and clients of the Musselburgh-based service, which provides supported accommodation for people with learning disabilities.
The prestigious visit caps off a triple celebration for the Eskmills Project in 2008.
For in January it was awarded the Charter Mark – the UK government’s national standard for excellence in customer services – and also celebrated its tenth anniversary in February.
Service manager, Graeme Stewart, said it was an honour to be recognised by such a high profile guest.
“This is the first time we have been visited by somebody like the Lord High Commissioner and the residents are all quite chuffed that he is coming,” he said on Tuesday.
“They will probably have him in for a cuppa and I know there is a lot of home-baking going on at the moment!”
The Eskmills Project is one of 80 community initiatives run by Crossreach – the social work arm of the Church of Scotland.
