Steph’s bid for control
ELPHINSTONE beauty Stephanie Macpherson (pictured right) urged county residents to support her this week, as she competed for the title of Scotland’s number one ‘green goddess’!
Stephanie, 19, of Duries Park, qualified for the regional semi-finals of the Miss Earth UK 2008 competition after sister Dionne, 23, nominated her for the eco-friendly beauty contest last month.
The teenager, who has lived in Elphinstone with parents Gus and Irene for the past two years, was due to take to the stage alongside 15 other ‘beauty queens’ at the GHQ Club in Edinburgh last night (Thursday).
A pensions administrator with Scottish Widows, Stephanie told the Courier on Monday: “It’s not really about winning – though that would be brilliant.
“It’s about taking part and this is more than just a beauty contest as it’s also about the environment, which I’m very interested in.”
During the event, the petite teenager was to undergo two costume changes, answer questions on the environment and take part in an eco-friendly fashion show, in front of an independent panel of judges.
Two semi-final winners were to be chosen – one by the judges, the other by a public vote – to compete for the title of Miss Earth Scotland 2008 in August, and finally the chance to represent Scotland in the eighth Miss Earth International Pageant. The pageant is among the three largest beauty contests in the world and raises money for the World Wildlife Federation.
Ambitious Stephanie, who hopes to become a full-time model admitted the competition was “a bit daunting!”
The deadline to vote for Stephanie was 7.30pm yesterday (Thursday) – online at www.missearthuk.co.uk or by phone on 0901 6561574.
