Plea by old folk
ELDERLY members of Gullane Day Centre have pledged their support to the controversial proposal for a £3 million multi-purpose health facility on the outskirts of the village.
Community leaders have been reluctant to get behind the proposal, for a combined health and day centre constructed alongside a development of 100 houses to the east of Gullane.
Day centre members have now urged East Lothian Council planners and Gullane Area Community Council “to think long and hard about the positive aspects this proposal will have on many people’s lives.”
Aberlady resident, Ian Knight, told the Courier: “If I didn’t have the day centre I would be on my own at home all the time as there are no other facilities for the elderly of Gullane, Dirleton and Aberlady.
Sandy Sanderson, from Gullane, added: “I’d be lost if the day centre closed due to problems with the current premises. I think I’d die of boredom.”
