Taking it all in her stride
HADDINGTON teenager Olivia Mackenzie, who represented Scotland in last month’s London Mini Marathon, was placed an impressive 34th out of 200 competitors.
Olivia, a second form pupil at Loretto School in Musselburgh, completed the three mile race in 20:09
She was selected to run for her county at under 13 level based on past performances in Scottish cross country and athletics events.
All runners in the junior event raced by invitation and were unsponsored.
Olivia is regarded as one of the senior school’s sporting stars.
She runs cross country and middle distance on track for Edinburgh Athletics’ Club and trains after-school twice a week.
She said: “I was really excited about running for Scotland. The only bit I was worried about was the fact I had to run three miles as a race!
“Apart from that, I was very excited to run over the same finishing line as Paula Radcliffe and so many other famous runners.”
“The crowds were amazing the whole way round, supporting 200 runners in my age group.
”I started to get a stitch on the first mile, but it went away by the second,” she added.
