Company wants exclusive use of mooring
Diving, angling and sightseeing charter company Aquatrek hopes to gain an advantage on its competitors by securing exclusive use of a mooring, which is not dependent on tidal movements.
Owner Cameron Small has applied to Scottish ministers under the Coast Protection Act 1949 in respect of an existing mooring located 50 yards north-west of North Berwick harbour.
Because the mooring lies in the navigable channel leading from the harbour entrance, it means that approved users won’t be restricted by low tides.
If his application is successful, he will also be able to pick up and set down clients on the old pier, which is only useable at low tide.
Derek Braid, secretary of North Berwick Harbour Trust, said that the trust would not be objecting to Mr Small’s application.
He said: “There has been a mooring in that area for some considerable time and Cameron is a well-established member of the harbour community in North Berwick.
“I think it will be a win-win situation for everyone if this is approved.”
Objections must be received by May 30.
