A FORMER Cockenzie and Port Seton Gala queen who lives in Western Australia, is planning to join the line-up of ex-gala queens for this year’s diamond jubilee celebrations.

Julia Morris, who was Seton queen in 1995, had already arranged a trip to the UK with her husband and young child, when she heard about the request for former gala queens to attend the festivities at the end of May.

As well as Julia, whose maiden name is Morelle, former gala queens from the past six decades are also travelling from as far afield as Aberdeen and Suffolk.

All former Seton Queens have been invited to take part in the gala weekend, beginning with a welcome evening on Friday, May 30. This will be also be a reunion evening for members of the first gala court from 1949.

There is an open invitation to this event to all former committee members and any of the gracious ladies and gentlemen who have crowned the Seton Queen over the past 60 years.

An exhibition is currently being compiled of Cockenzie and Port Seton gala days down the ages and an appeal has gone out for photographs, videos, dvds and former programmes.

Anyone with memorabilia from former gala days is asked to hand these in at the Port Seton Centre as soon as possible.

Cockenzie and Port Seton Royal British Legion Pipe Band will play at the reunion, which will be held in Port Seton Centre from 7 to 9pm.

Music by ‘Harbour Lights’ will follow, at Port Seton Harbour, with sea shanties and traditional music, as part of the 3 Harbour Arts Festival that is running alongside gala week.

The gala day activities on Saturday, May 31, will include a procession of the former Seton Queens, who have accepted the invitation to return for the celebrations.

A diamond jubilee ceilidh will be held on gala night, in Port Seton Centre from 7.30 to 11pm.

Anyone wishing to take part in the ceilidh should contact either Lyn or John Marshall at the Port Seton Centre on 01875 815815.

Tickets are £8.
