Extra fences at Oak Tree
OAK TREE owners Premier Property Group (PPG) are to beef up security at the former cafe and filling station site amid renewed fears of illegal encampment and fly-tipping.
Haddington and District Community Council wrote to Sir David Murray’s subsidiary company requesting improved security in the wake of the recent demolition of the cafe and filling station buildings.
Community councillors are concerned that travelling communities and unscrupulous tradesmen may try to take advantage of the cleared site, which lies close to the A1 at the western gateway to the town.
PPG director Andrew Glasgow said: “We will be putting up extra fencing around the site to prevent easy access. The community council were concerned about the possibility of travellers moving in or tradesmen fly-tipping. We share their concerns and want to prevent either scenario from happening because it can be a costly business to clean up the resulting mess.
“We are awaiting receipt of a quote from a fencing contractor and hope to get the work done in the next month.”
The company has also pledged to maintain the Oak Tree site in a reasonable condition pending the outcome of a planning application by business partners Sainsbury’s for a 35,000 sq ft food store and petrol station at Gateside West.
