MULTIMILLIONAIRE philanthropist, Sir Tom Farmer, congratulated senior pupils at Ross High School’s annual ‘Celebration of Success’ evening last Wednesday.

Sir Tom stepped in as guest speaker at the annual ceremony held at the Tranent high school, to mark the achievements of around 200 pupils from S5 and S6, over the past year.

As well as awards for effort in all school subjects, special prizes were handed out to pupils who had devoted their free time to good causes, such as the East Lothian Special Needs Playscheme and Amnesty International.

Head Boy and Girl, Justin Savala and Sarah Young also delivered speeches during the ceremony, reflecting on their time at the Well Wynd school, and were gifted with the Alec Miller Memorial Cup.

After handing out awards to pupils, Sir Tom told the audience: “I have had one of the most enjoyable evenings of my life. ”

The Scottish entrepreneur, who is the founder of the Kwik Fit car repair business and Hibernian Football Club benefactor, praised award-winning pupils for their enthusiasm and commitment.

The school orchestra, including soloist Alison Ewan and singer Kimberley Torley, also provided entertainment for visitors on the night.

A school spokeswoman said: “Sir Tom Farmer gave an inspirational and motivating speech, encouraging pupils to make the most of their talents, abilities and opportunities which came their way.

“It was a most enjoyable evening and the school hall was packed to capacity with parents, pupils and teachers.”
