Blaze at second hand goods yard
FIREFIGHTERS took over two hours to extinguish a fire at Sam Burns and Co second hand goods yard on the outskirts of Prestonpans.
They were called to the yard on the shore road between the town and Musselburgh at 10.50pm last Thursday, to deal with the blaze that had started in a pile of waste material ready for disposal.
Fire chief Robert Taylor said that a crew from Musselburgh had used a hose real to deal with the fire.
He said: “When the fire crew arrived, they found a large quantity of tyres and wood alight.
“There is nothing at this stage to say that the fire was started deliberately.”
Co-owner of the yard Gordon Burns said that the damage had been limited to the waste material.
“We were about to take it to the tip at Barbachlaw, near Wallyford,” he added.
“The fire was totally contained to where we kept the waste, none of our stock was damaged.”
