Taking the plunge
FIVE intrepid Haddington beauticians are set to take the plunge for charity – by performing their first ever parachute drop.
Staff at Serenus Beauty, Hardgate, will put their nerves through the shredder from a height of 10,000ft above St Andrews on June 22 in order to raise funds for the MS Society.
Salon owner Natalie Chew, 39, therapists Amanda Porteous ,28, Joanne Donaldson, 31, and Sharon Maxwell, 33, along with trainee Claire McNally, 17, will receive two hours’ instruction on the day before leaping from a light aircraft in the company of a qualified parachute instructor.
Mother of three Mrs Chew, of Priory Gate, Cockenzie, said: “I am not having sleepless nights about it yet, but I am sure it will happen nearer the time. We are all a bit apprehensive and excited about doing it.
“Throwing yourself out of a plane is something different.
“ But we are determined to help a good cause.”
The idea of a sponsored parachute drop came about through the beauticians’ fortnightly visits to the Leuchie House MS respite centre near North Berwick, when they provide beauty therapy services for residents.
“A couple of the girls have relatives who suffer from MS, so this is something that is close to our hearts,” added Mrs Chew.
“We have to raise £400 each, of which £140 goes towards paying for the training and the jump.”
Anyone wishing to sponsor the girls or make a donation should contact Mrs Chew on 01620 829044.
