Group urged to get in quick
PRESTONPANS Community Council has been urged not to delay in making a bid for a share of the local authority’s £100,000 Capital Development Fund (CDF) for 2008/09.
Speaking at the group’s meeting held last Tuesday, Preston/Seton/Gosford councillor Willie Innes urged members to take advantage of the CDF scheme – which invites community councils to apply for funding if they can match the amount sought.
He said: “Only nine community councils accessed the funds last year. I think it’s important that we as a community council can work with local groups to decide a list of projects to try and access money for.”
Two such potential projects were suggested, including a miners’ sculpture and regeneration of the town’s Cuthill Park.
Community council chairman James Yule pointed out that the group had previously tried to access the CDF, using money from their local priorities budget, which is also provided by the council.
However, Mr Innes explained that external funds must be used when making a CDF application. He suggested that community councillors consult with organisers of The 3 Harbours Festival to see if a joint fundraising effort could be arranged.
