Launch of first response group
COUNTY MP Anne Moffat will tomorrow (Saturday) help launch a key lifesaving initiative for North Berwick.
Ms Moffat will present training certificates to 31 newly qualified members of North Berwick Community First Responders.
Tomorrow’s ceremony, at 2pm at North Berwick Community Centre, marks the debut of the town’s latest emergency service.
Community first responders are local volunteers who provide lifesaving treatment to people who are critically injured or ill, prior to the arival of an ambulance.
They are trained by the Scottish Ambulance Service in the use of CPR equipment, defibrillators, oxygen therapy and general first aid.
North Berwick Community First Responders is funded by donations.
Contributors so far including Tesco (£1,000), Scandinavian shipping firm Farstaad (£350) and the County Hotel (£100).
Group spokesman Willie Howes, 52, of Lime Grove, is a former crew member of North Berwick inshore lifeboat.
He said: “We thank all the companies and individuals who have donated to our funds. We are planning to apply for charitable status soon.”
From tomorrow, North Berwick will have 24-hour emergency cover from the community first responders.
