Teacher jets off to New Zealand to boost learning
A CAMPIE Primary School teacher has jetted off to New Zealand to get a first-hand look at their education system.
Katherine Macnaughton, 26, is part of five-strong Scottish delegation of business people and professionals seeking to gain cultural and vocational experience abroad by learning about their chosen profession in the country’s North Island.
The P5/6 teacher’s five-week trip is supported by Musselburgh Rotary Club and she will be staying with host families.
Matthew Jones, Musselburgh Rotary Club president, said: “Bosses are often sceptical as to what their employees gain from a Rotary-sponsored group study exchange, especially when they are required to release a candidate for five weeks or so.
“On the other hand, employers are usually quick to praise the programme when they observe the increased confidence, creative ability and management potential displayed on a candidate’s return, not to mention the extended network of professional contacts made.”
Rotary will be looking to recruit candidates for next year’s visit to Colombia in the spring of 2009.
Any businesses interested in this opportunity are invited to contact their local Rotary club.
