Helping to make burgh litter-free

VOLUNTEERS in Cockenzie and Port Seton will have a spring in their step next week in their bid to make the burgh litter-free.

Many groups are taking part in the ‘Monster Spring Clean’ that starts on Monday, including Brownies, Anchor Boys, Seton Boys Football Club, the gala committee, Port Seton Centre Youth Club, Seton Sands Holiday Village, and members of Cockenzie and Port Seton in Bloom.

They’re hoping that their actions will show the rest of the community how big an issue litter has become. Over the next two weeks litter blackspots will be blitzed.

Chairperson of Cockenzie and Port Seton in Bloom, Marlene Love (pictured left), said: “Not only do littered streets and countryside look horrible, they also damage business and tourism opportunities.

“We want to encourage as many volunteers as possible to come and take part in our clean-ups. By working together and taking responsibility for our surroundings, we can make dropping litter unacceptable and keep Cockenzie and Port Seton litter-free.”

The clean-up starts with a litter pick of Sandy Walk on Monday at 6.30pm and volunteers are invited to join the team.

Details of other events during the two week period will be posted on noticeboards throughout the burgh.

Sheila Chambers on 01875 812410 has all the details.
