THE names of two new streets of council houses in Musselburgh could be called after a highly successful former athletics star who hails from the area.

Yvonne Murray MBE, the highly successful 3,000m runner who won a string of gold medals at Commonwealth Games level, as well as one gold at the European Championships in 1990, may give her name to the new developments – should the community council get its way.

Musselburgh and Inveresk Community Council has been asked to propose possible street names for two new developments at Macbeth Moir Road and Delta Drive.

East Lothian Council has been granted planning permission to develop five council houses on Macbeth Moir Road and a further two council houses and eight flats on Delta Drive.

Possible new street names mooted by community councils include Yvonne Murray Way, Yvonne Murray Drive, and, ironically ,Yvonne Murray Walk!
