EAST LOTHIAN Provost, Councillor Sheena Richardson, is to host a civic reception to mark next month’s centenary of the Knox Academy Combined Cadet Force (CCF).

The anniversary is a significant milestone for what is now the only state school cadet force left in all of Scotland.

Members and officers from the 24-strong contingent will attend the council reception, as will guests from the local Haddington community, the armed services and the school.

The Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian, Sir Garth Morrison, leads the list of local dignitaries who will be in attendance, along with cadet helpers, supporters, former members, and representatives of other school CCF contingents.

Provost Richardson is a former Knox teacher.

Prior to the evening reception on April 12, members of the public will be able to visit the Town House to view a centenary exhibition currently being prepared. This will include a series of old photographs and other items relating to the cadet group’s activities over the decades.

Members of the current CCF contingent will also be there to welcome visitors and to talk about their work.

The exhibition will run from 2pm-4.30pm in the Town House on April 12, when complimentary teas and coffee will be served.

Organisers have appealed for more photographs, artefacts and other memorabilia associated with the Knox cadets over the last 100 years. Anyone who has something of interest to contribute to the display should contact the school on 01620 823387.
