Wallyford says no to Boundary Commission proposals

COMMUNITY leaders in Wallyford have declared their opposition to Boundary Commission plans to annexe the village from the East Lothian Holyrood constituency.

A review of Scottish Parliament boundaries is proposing to create a new constituency named North Midlothian and Musselburgh, which would include Wallyford, Whitecraig and Musselburgh – the rest of the current East Lothian constituency would be renamed Haddington as part of a reshuffle aimed at creating around 55,000 voters in each Holyrood seat.

At a recent meeting of Wallyford Community Council, members voiced their opposition to the plans.

Group chairman Elaine di Troia told the Courier: “We are not happy about this. The way I see it, most people from Wallyford think of themselves as being from East Lothian and I don’t think people would be happy with a change to Midlothian at all.

“We’re a small village and there can’t be an awful lot of voters living here.”

The deadline to register objections to the proposals is next Friday (March 14).
