North Berwick girl jailed for drug smuggling

Printer Print Article

A NORTH BERWICK woman has spent her first Christmas behind bars following her conviction for drug smuggling.

Amy Fox, 20, of Forth Street, was jailed for five years after admitting the offence in a court in the south of England.

She had been arrested by police after customs officials swooped at Heathrow Airport. It’s understood she had travelled from west Africa.

Reference to a ‘Free Amy Fox’ campaign has been posted on at least one North Berwick resident’s social networking web page, but the Courier understands that no such formal campaign exists.

The former North Berwick High School pupil’s family, who are well known in the town, declined to comment.

However, one resident who knows the family, said: “It seems she just got into the wrong company. She was probably a little naive, but carrying drugs is still a serious offence.”
