Drug danger

POLICE have launched an urgent appeal for the recovery of a bottle of methadone accidentally left on a bus by a Haddington woman on Sunday night.

The 26-year-old lost her bag containing a 200ml bottle of the heroin substitute after boarding a No 6 First Bus service at Musselburgh’s Brunton Hall at 9.25pm.

A police spokesman said: “She placed her bag under her seat. When she arrived home at Haddington she realised that she had left her bag on the bus.

“She made inquiries with First Bus, but the bag had not been handed in.”

The missing bag is made of black suede with a long shoulder strap. About 70ml of methadone was left in the bottle.

Also in the bag was cash and items of make-up.

“The bag has not been handed in to the police and has obviously been taken by someone finding it on the bus and may have been discarded,” the police spokesman added.

“Members of the public should be warned that methadone is a prescribed substitute to heroin and is therefore dangerous.”

Anyone with information should contact Haddington Police Station on 01620 824101.
