Biker in bus smash is killed

A YOUNG Macmerry man died of head injuries after colliding with a double-decker bus while driving a motorbike with no helmet on.

Paul McFarlane, 23, of Robins Neuk, died as a result of a serious head injury last Wednesday night when the Yamaha bike he was riding was in collision with a double-decker First Bus in Ormiston.

The crash happened at around 7.35pm in Limeylands Crescent, at the junction with Tynemount Road.

Mr McFarlane was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died a short time later.

A police spokeswoman said of the incident: “Mr McFarlane, who was not wearing a crash helmet at the time of the collision, died in hospital following the crash.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for witnesses to come forward.”
